Miriam Pascal is a young woman who has accomplished a lot. She is a self taught cook and baker who founded the immensely popular site OvertimeCook.com and has already published a dessert cookbook, Something Sweet. Real Life Kosher Cooking is as down to earth as Miriam herself. No special equipment or hard to find ingredients are required to recreate Miriam’s family friendly recipes that can be made at the end of a busy work day.
What makes Miriam’s books even more special is that they include beautiful photography. All the photos have been taken by Miriam. Not only has she trained herself to become a cook and recipe writer; but she’s also an amazing photographer.
Real Life Kosher Cooking takes the reader from establishing a game plan for their entertaining, to what disposables to use, to what salt and oil to use and to the importance of having a proper and well sharpened chef’s knife.
The recipes are divided into many categories starting with a menu for each section and then all the recipes that follow. I made the Creamy Roasted Cauliflower Soup and the Southwestern Steak Salad (pictured above) for my family. They were both a success. The addition of chickpeas to the cauliflower adds a creamy richness that is very welcome on a cold Winter’s night. The Steak Salad is a wonderful addition to your lunch menu for Shabbat or a company buffet at any time.
Real Life Kosher Cooking is just what the title says: it’s for real life. What a great gift to give for Chanukah or as a hostess gift any time of year. I can’t wait to see what Miriam Pascal does next!
